Welcome To Getzy's Page!

Getzy is an amazing little dog with the drive to help others. He loves "working". This website is dedicated to Getzy and all of his fans! At such a young age of just over one, Getzy has launched his career by helping 8th grade students in the classroom, and those in the hospital.

So, what is so special about this little dog?

Getzy is what is known as a Service Facility Therapy Dog.  He provides love and support to a campus full of children, but more specifically to my personal 8th grade English classroom. Getzy has the ability to create a family environment for students to feel safe enough to take risks with their reading and writing. No matter what academic level a student may be - advanced or remedial, Getzy loves them all the same. Students love to read to him because he gives them non-judgmental encouragement. Getzy calms students down by curling up in their lap as they tackle a difficult essay or plug away at a keyboard perfecting their writing.  His presence in the classroom is unequaled to anything I have ever witnessed as an 11th year veteran. It is amazing to see 8th graders treat him with such respect and warm regard and in return they always have his love and unconditional support at school - something kids this age so desperately need. Growing up is difficult and self-confidence is wavering. Middle school is just plain tough sometimes. It is nice to have a 4 legged little friend, who is there by their side through it all with a wagging tail and soft-warm eyes!
